Gaudi was not only ahead of his time, but his art and architecture evoked such concrete emotions and responses in his audience that I would classify his work as largely particularist. When I saw in 1990 the front entrance of Sagrada Familia, with its images of Jesus Christ carrying his cross, I was overcome. Gaudi had a way of capturing the timeless with the finite.
